Where Have I Been??
As you might have guessed, when I switched jobs, I kind of got out of the blogging habit. I guess that's a testament to how much down time I had--and how much I don't have now. I can't stand the idea of my last blog being about the bloody OLYMPICS (wasn't that, like, last year or something?), so I thought I'd throw this up. (Even though anyone I had ever convinced to read my blog has long since given up checking it for updates.) Two things you might find interesting this fall:
1) My friend and former boss, Steve, is on his 40th birthday road trip with his best friend Troy. They're tooling around small, deep south towns I wouldn't have the guts to step one yankee foot in, immersed deep in cajun music and food. His daily blog about their adventures can help you to live vicariously from your own Office Depot manager's chair. http://thunderstruck40.blogspot.com/
2) What I'm watching on TV this fall season. My favorite show, Alias, is not returning until January so that ABC can use its timeslot to launch the hated/loved Desperate Housewives. Apparently another reason is so that they can run a full season straight through with no re-runs, so as not to lose any steam with the storyline. So far, I'm doing my best to be patient. In the interim, this is what I've been watching faithfully.
Lost - Declared the "best new drama" on TV by, um, someone, Lost is written by the brilliant man behind Alias, J.J. Abrams. So far, I concur with that assessment, and I've managed to get several others in my immediate sphere of influence totally addicted.
Boston Legal - A spin-off from the David E. Kelley series, The Practice, this show is infinitely different from its predecessor. I never watched The Practice until its last season when James Spader joined the cast. I happened to catch a few minutes after Alias one night and I was immediately hooked. The character Kelley created for Spader is deliciously irreverant. Equally so is the character Denny Crane played by the 73-year-old William Shatner (73!!). Not for the faint of heart--just for the lovers of quirky humor.
Survivor - You never know when Survivor is going to be the "best season ever," so you've gotta start from the beginning, lest you be left out of the water cooler talk on Friday mornings. However, I haven't found this season completely compelling, and I'm more than ready to give it up when my favorite new show of LAST season goes up against it (Thursdays, 8 pm, in case you've been living in a cave and do not know when Survivor is on) on Fox in a few weeks...
The O.C. - Compare it to 90210 all you want. But Adam Brody as Seth is comedy that neither Dylan or Brandon ever had, and never fails to deliver, each and every melodramatic week. Look for fun cameos by indy rock bands that the general public has never heard of, nods to 80's high school movies, and cleverly delivered jabs at their own show's popularity/criticism.
Arrested Development - Cruelly slotted against my beloved Alias, I will be watching faithfully once Fox shows start back up again (after the Red Sox break the curse?!?), and for the rest of the fall season. Come January & Alias-time, however, I'll have to wait for ADev to come out on DVD because I'll be busy hunting down the bad guys with Sydney Bristow.
Happy tubing!
